Sonja Hornsby

With a personal interest and background in endurance sport, in particular long distance running and road cycling, I am passionate about all things fitness related. I discovered Pilates seeking help for posture related problems, was quickly convinced of this self empowering approach to movement and thus found my calling. After extensive theoretical and practical training I qualified as a full Body Control (TM) Pilates mat work instructor in 2005 and have since been teaching classes and private sessions in and around Newbury. Over the last 10 years I have also worked alongside physiotherapists which has given me a lot of experience in teaching clients with specific conditions ranging from hip replacements, sciatica, spinal fusions to non-specific lower back pain. This motivated me to become a Back4Good Practitioner and undertake additional training exclusively related to exercise referral and low back pain attaining the level 4 fitness instructor qualification.
Over the years I have gained extensive experience in teaching clients with Multiple Sclerosis and developed an approach that helps to find a better connection into your body increasing body control.

I have also gained qualifications in Pilates Studio equipment and teach private sessions on the Reformer, Cadillac, Pilates Chair, Ladder Barrel and Arc. My detailed knowledge and understanding of how the body moves, my focus on postural corrective exercise and my enthusiasm will motivate you to working harder than you thought you could and make you move and feel muscles you never knew you had. I also have qualifications in Holistic Massage, Sports Massage and the Emmett Technique ( muscle relaxation technique, more details at www.emmett-uk.com ). I am registered with: Body Control Pilates Association(R)

"I have suffered from a lower back problem for a number of years, and last year had my lower spine fused. To reduce further impact and strengthen my core, my Consultant strongly recommended taking up Pilates. A colleague recommended Sonja and for the last 3 months I have been working with her on a one to one basis and it has made a significant difference. Whilst I am not pain free I now have a better understanding of how my body connects and can use my 'core' to reduce the impact on my lower back, and as an added bonus get a little fitter in a 'safe' environment.
Sonja is extremely knowledgeable and patient; she understands the body and my limitations but at the same time is pushing the boundaries. I feel a lot more confident, Sonja and Body Control Pilates, have made a positive difference to my daily life and I strongly recommend both."
